Additional 10,000 Degrees Scholarships

These scholarships are funded by generous donors to 10,000 Degrees and provide awards from $1,000 to $5,000 per academic year. There are specific eligibility criteria for these scholarships, such as field of study, school/university attending and demographic characteristics.

To apply for any of these scholarships, you must first complete the Undergraduate Scholarship application, and then complete the supplemental application questions, and provide the required supplemental materials. The application deadline is March 2, 2010.

Asian Scholarship Fund

Requirements

  • Marin or Sonoma County residency for at least one year prior to March 2, 2010.
  • A graduating high school senior from a Marin or Sonoma County High School.
  • Financial need.
  • Applicants must be enrolling in a full-time undergraduate academic program leading to a degree.
  • Applicants must have one parent of Asian, South East Asian, Pacific Islander, or South Asian descent. Proof may be requested.
  • Demonstrate strong academic achievement and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. 
  • A clear and consistent history of one of the following:  1) volunteer work benefiting individuals, groups, non-profit organizations, or schools or 2) work necessitated by financial need. 
  • A history of leadership in their personal, community, and/or academic life.

Building Better Teachers Scholarship

Up to $5000

Requirements

  • Enrolled in an early childhood degree program intending to pursue a career with children zero to five years old (prior to kindergarten). Students may be attending a Bachelor’s degree program, Master’s degree program or community college courses related to early childhood education with plans of transferring to a four-year college to complete a bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA while attending college.

Carol Bartz Scholarship for Math, Science and Technology

Requirements

  • A graduating high school senior from a Marin County High School.
  • Applicants must be enrolling in a full-time undergraduate academic program
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, technology or math.

Kent Roger Kincaid Scholarship

 $500-$2,000

Requirements

  • A graduate of Tamalpais High School
  • Applicants must be enrolling in a full-time undergraduate academic program
  • New applicants must fill out the Undergraduate Scholarship Application to be considered for this scholarship. No additional application is required.
  • Renewing applicants should fill out a Renewal Undergraduate Scholarship Application. Please contact 10,000 Degrees if you do not have your Applicant ID Number.

Kiwanis Club Scholarship

$1,000

Requirements

  • A graduating high school senior from San Rafael High School.
  • Applicants must be enrolling in a full-time undergraduate academic program.
  • Demonstrated commitment to community service.

Kryzanowski Family Scholarship

$1000 - $2000

Requirements

  • Graduating high school student from Tamalpais High School or Ringgold High School.

Laura Richardson Memorial Scholarship

Marin Retired Teachers' Association Scholarship

$250 - $500

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a 5th year teaching credential program. (NOT a masters, graduate or CLAD program.
  • A minimum college GPA of 2.0
  • Applicants must be graduates of a Marin County high school

Marin Retirement Communities Scholarship Fund

$1000 - $4000

Requirements

  • Since April 27, 2009, applicant, applicant’s parent(s), or grandparent(s) has been employed full or part–time for a minimum of 120 hours by one of the following six Marin County retirement facilities: Villa Marin, The Tamalpais, The Aldersly, The Redwoods, Drake Terrace, or Smith Ranch.
  • Attend an interview with the scholarship committee in April/May if selected as a finalist.

Mill Valley Rotary Scholarship

Up to $3000

Requirements

  • Will be a graduating high school senior from Tamalpais or Redwood High School or from an alternative high school maintained by the Tamalpais High School District
  • Must be residents of the southern Marin geographic area, residing in the 94941 zip code or  in Marin City.  
  • Demonstrated commitment to community service.

Mission San Rafael Rotary Scholarship

$2000 - $4,000

Requirements

  • Will graduate from San Rafael High School in 2008.
  • Minimum high school GPA of 2.5.

San Francisco Yacht Club Scholarship

$1,000 - $2,500

Requirements

  • Since March 2, 2009, the applicant or applicant’s parent(s) has been employed 20 hours per week or more by the San Francisco Yacht Club.

Terra Linda Rotary Educational Scholarship

$2,500 - $5,000

Requirements

  • A graduating high school senior from Terra Linda or Marin Catholic High School.  Marin Catholic High school seniors must also be residents of San Rafael’s Terra Linda district.
  • Demonstrated commitment to community service.
  • Minimum non-weighted high-school GPA of 3.0.
  • Applicants must be enrolling in a full-time undergraduate academic program leading to a degree.

The New Leader Scholarship Fund

Up to $7,000

Requirements

  • Complete the application (PDF).
  • Enrollment in one of the following Bay Area public universities: California State University, East Bay Campus; San Francisco State University; San Jose State University; Sonoma State University; or University of California at Berkeley
  • Upper division student who has attended the school for one academic year or more, with 60 units or more, 30 of which were attained at the present university.
  • Studying the social sciences, human services, public interest law, health-related fields, or public service
  • A minimum 3.5 GPA either at the current school or at a combination of the current school plus all schools previously attended.  Consideration will be given to students with a GPA of 3.2 - 3.49.
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 units each in the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 semesters.
Fact: 73% of 10,000 Degrees scholarship recipients are first in their families to attend college.
